When you open an employee's timesheet to approve it, ESS validates the timesheet and checks for the following:
Any leave requests in the timesheet period must be approved before you can approve the timesheet.
If the timesheet includes a leave request that has not been approved or an overlapping timesheet, then the following message appears when you click the timesheet:
You cannot approve this timesheet from the popup because a problem exists for the timesheet. Click 'Edit Timesheet' below and then correct the problem.
Click Edit Timesheet to open the timesheet.
All leave in the timesheet period must be approved before you can approve the timesheet. The following leave requests are not yet approved: [Leave type, date].
If the request is waiting for someone other that you to approve it, then their name is displayed beside the message:

[Date, time] clashes with [time].
Correct the problem in the timesheet and then you can approve it.
