In ESS, whether or not you can apply for leave and how it gets paid if the leave falls on or spans a Public Holiday is dependant on the settings applied to the employee's Leave Request Settings record. Specifically the following fields:
To apply for leave just on the Public Holiday day or for leave spanning multiple days where the public holiday falls on the start or end of the days selected, both Works public holidays if scheduled and Start or end leave on a non working day must be set to Yes.
Note: If the public holiday falls in the middle of the days selected, the settings applied are ignored for the purposes of applying for leave.
Limitation: ESS does not allow you to apply for partial days leave on a public holiday.
When you enable LOP, the impact this has employee's leave balance and the timebands that get created/changed is dependant on the setting applied to the Works public holidays if scheduled field and whether or not the public holiday has a Reason Code linked to it.
Note: Reason Codes on public holidays come from the Employee's Holiday Group Holidays record or the Holiday Group record
The following table shows what happens

The existing timeband reason doesn't change. Exception: For "one-off" timebands, where the Reason code doesn't match what would have otherwise been applied to the Public Holiday, the Reason code is replaced by the Reason Code from the Public Holiday. For example: If the Reason Code on the existing timeband was "PH Worked", but the Reason code on the Public Holiday was "ANZAC day", then "ANZAC day" replaces "PH Worked". |
